Amsterdam is a large and important city in the Netherlands and the Dutch Republic.
History[]
Background[]
Amsterdam was founded in the Middle Ages, and was formally given city rights in 1306. As the years went on, the city grew and gained status.
The city became a center of the Dutch Protestant rebels against the Spanish Crown. After the Eighty Years War, the Dutch gained independence from the Spanish. The city was also known for having a large immigrant population.
Rackham's Razor[]
While playing find the jack, a card game, with Neville, Coker and Pursy, Jack Rackham realizes that Pursy was a spy for the British government in Amsterdam, given by the fact that his fingernails are cut in the lowlands fashiom, he's wearing expensive Dutch calfskin and he even smells of the canal. Rackham then poses the question if there comes a day when someone posted abroad for so long no longer has any alleigance to the British Empire. Pursy then leaves after this remark.
Season Two[]
In a flashback to 1705, Lord Peter Ashe offered to set Lieutenant James McGraw and Lady Miranda Hamilton up comfortably with his friends in Amsterdam after Thomas Hamilton is imprisoned in the mental asylum. McGraw refuses to go Amsterdam or any of the other places Ashe offered, and instead goes to Nassau with Miranda.
