Biography[]
Background[]
Anne ascended the throne in 1702. Shortly into her reign, war broke out with Spain over who would succeed the recently deceased Charles II.
Lieutenant James McGraw shows Lord Thomas Hamilton the hanging of a pirate named Davey. He tells Lord Hamilton that the pirate is being asked if he wants to beg forgiveness in the eyes of God and Queen Anne. The pirate declines[1].
Lord Alfred Hamilton asks his son how he expects to distract Queen Anne from her war to issue pardons for the pirates. Thomas replies that he doesn’t need her to do anything, a simple act of Parliament would accomplish the same thing[2].
Upon her death, her second cousin, George succeeded her as king as her closest Protestant relative. The Jacobites would attempt to depose him and place her Catholic half brother, James Stuart, on the throne.
Rackham's Razor[]
Jack Rackham remarks that everyone knows Queen Anne's government has more spies than taxes[3].
Season Two[]
After Flint backs out of assaulting Fort Nassau and returning rule of it to Benjamin Hornigold, Flint says the only thing he is sorry for is that Hornigold can’t see past his own pride to join Flint. Hornigold replies that he has been a captain of men at sea for over three decades and has survived a war against Spain, an insurrection against Queen Anne and a decade as an outlaw in a place where the weak and the dead are the same[4].
Season Three[]
Flint remarks to Silver that while Silver may believe he poses a danger to Flint, there are things he should remember a few things. Flint survived starvation, a tempest, pirate hunters, jealous captains, mutinous crews, angry lords, Queen Anne, King George, and the Royal Navy[5].
Quotes[]
"Who is he?"
"Davey someone-or-other. High seas piracy, treason, so on and so forth, same as the last, same as the next. He's being asked if he wants to confess, beg forgiveness in the eyes of God and Queen Anne."
- Thomas Hamilton and James McGraw inIX.
"Perhaps you could explain to me how you intend to distract the queen from her war to issue these pardons."
"I wouldn't need her to do anything. A simple act would accomplish the same thing."
- Lord Alfred Hamilton and Thomas in XII.
