Albinus had a large camp on an island in the Bahamas a relatively short distance from Nassau, being reachable easily by skiff. The camp served as the headquarters of Albinus’ timber business. It served as a lumberyard, fortress and shantytown.
History[]
Background[]
Albinus was once a feared and rich pirate captain. Under his command, his crew successfully sacked Cartagena and Campeche. At some point, he decided to retire and invest his earnings in creating a timber business, which made him even wealthier. His former crew served as foremen and lumberjacks, and they also relied heavily on slave labor. All the slaves were branded on their chests.
Charles Vane was slave at the camp when he was a child. At some point, he escaped and became a pirate in Nassau. All the inhabitants of the camp live rather hardscrabble lives, despite the wealth selling timber brings them. The camp itself is very undeveloped and made up of primitive wooden structures. Many people dress in untanned hides. To the eyes of outsiders, they appear little more than barbarians living in savagery.
Season One[]
After losing his crew and his ship,Charles Vane sees visions of Albinus during his opium dreams. He decides to go to Albinus and confront him. He arrives at the camp at night and finds Albinus by a fire. The next morning, Vane tries to persuade Albinus to lend him some of his men in order to rebuild his crew. Vane promises that if he is given a dozen men, he will give a share for every six men to Albinus. After some thought, Albinus agrees if he is given a share for every three men, four shares in all. Vane is given a dozen men, but then gives a speech saying Albinus is weak for retiring from the account and has made the rest of them weak as well. Vane and Albinus then fight. Vane is able to get a few good hits in at first, using his speed. Albinus is able to overcome Vane’s assault using his size and brute strength. He knocks Vane unconscious with a kick to the head. Vane is then stripped and buried in a shallow grave on the outskirts of the camp. Vane is able to to dig himself out, and impales Albinus with a stake, killing him and then claiming his crew. It appears that only the former crew joins him rather than the slaves, as only forty men join him when far more live in the camp. Vane and his men then leave and return to Nassau, where they successfully take over Fort Nassau, killing Benjamin Hornigold’s garrison.
