Bristol is a large and important city in South West England. The area round the city has been inhabited since the Stone Age. Clifton is a suburb of the city.
History[]
Background[]
The first proper settlement in the area was built by the Romans. Sometime after 1066, a castle was constructed in the city. By the 13th century, Bristol became a busy port, its main export being woolen cloth, and wine was imported in large amounts from France. Bristol was officially made a city in 1542. In the 1600s, Bristol became a hub of the slave trade.
Woodes Rogers is the son of a wealthy shipping magnate from Bristol. It is from this city that he launched his privateer expedition with the ships Duke and Dutchess during the War of the Spanish Succession[1].
Rackham's Razor[]
After murdering James Bonny, Anne Bonny's abusive husband, Jack Rackham advises her to go to Christ's Hospital and lay low for a week. He tells her to then try and find work at a tavern for room and board, and he recommends the Golden Fleece in Bristol, and tells her to ask for Mignon, the Creole[2].
Season Three[]
A pirate originally hailing from Bristol, receives a Royal Pardon as offered by Woodes Rogers.The pirate is asked to state his name, occupation, ships served and place of birth. The pirate is a ship’s carpenter, served on the Buccaneer, and was born in Bristol[3].
Season Four[]
Edward Teach says to Jack Rackham in a story about Charles Vane where they encountered a massive, snow white bird, that in Clifton, where Teach’s mother is from, people would think that the bird is an omen of good fortune[4].
