Her Majesty’s Ship, the Carcass, was a ship of the Royal Navy of ill repute.
History[]
Background[]
The ship's primary duties involve transporting British Regulars to various postings. In 1705, the ship was ordered to the Bahamas to deal with the growing pirate problem.
The captain is known to be extremely strict, flogging men to death for blasphemy. The ship had an all around poor reputation and condition.
Rackham's Razor[]
After angering one his superior officers aboard his previous ship, Jack Rackham is transferred to the Carcass, which is tasked with ferrying Redcoats to the Bahamas. While Jack gets a drink with a former crew mate of his, Mr. Neville, who asks him if he expects to get away with his unique sideburns with his new captain. Jack quips that he hopes his new captain will find them jaunty. Neville replies that his new captain flogs men to death for blasphemy. Neville also warns him about the Carcass's poor reputation.
After teaming up with Anne Bonny after killing her abusive husband, Jack reveals that the Carcass is destined for the Bahamas, where Jack hopes to cross paths with Charles Vane and join his crew. He brings Anne along as a stowaway.
Eventually, Jack and Anne are able to join Vane’s crew, as Jack had hoped, either because Vane attacked their ship or they used the ship to get to the Bahamas and then deserted and joined Vane's crew in Nassau.
Quotes[]
