Spanish Flag

The Cross of Burgundy, the flag carried born by the military forces of the Spanish Empire, as well as its overseas territories.

The Cross of Burgundy is a saw-toothed form of St. Andrews cross. It is the flag of the Spanish military forces, such as the Spanish Navy and the Spanish Army, as well as the overseas territories of the Spanish Empire. It is also used as a flag by Spanish civilian vessels.

History[]

Season One[]

In preparation for their final battle with the Urca de Lima, the Walrus and the Ranger fly Spanish banners, hoping that the false colors will buy them some time before the Spanish realize the ruse. However, the Urca is nowhere to be found when they reach Division Bay. However, Spanish banners are then spotted to the south, and it is a Spanish Man O’ War.  The Walrus continues to pretend to be a beleaguered Spanish merchantman attacked by the Ranger, who will sail away flying the Black. The ruse works, and the Man O’ War gives chase after the Ranger. The two pirate ships then attack, but the Spanish ship is able to turn her broadsides on the pirates. The Ranger sinks, going down with all hands, and the Walrus is barely able to escape.

Season Two[]

The surviving Walrus crew captures the very Man O’ War that had defeated them. En route to Nassau, they come across an English Merchant Ship. They hail the English flying Spanish colors, and Dufresne orders they raise the Black as they get closer.

Season Three[]

After escaping Woodes Rogers’ blockade of Nassau, the Pirate Fleet spots a Spanish Merchant Ship sailing nearby. Now that Nassau is under British control, they attack the ship, breaking the rule the pirates formerly had of avoiding Spanish ships out of fear of reprisals against Nassau.

Season Four[]

When Woodes Rogers sails to Havana, his ship is surrounded by the city’s harbor patrol, which consists of four tall ships flying the Cross of Burgundy.

Havana’s Fleet sails into Nassau flying the Cross of Burgundy, although the lead ship posts a signal using Rogers’ personal banner, ordering Fort Nassau to stand down so the Spanish forces have free reign to attack the pirates.
