De Jure Belli Ac Pacis (On the Law of War and Peace), written in Latin by Hugo Grotius and published in 1625 in Paris. In it, Grotius wrote about the legal status of war.

Much of the content is based on the work of Spanish theologians who worked with the traditions of natural law. The work is divided into three parts. Book I discusses war and natural justice, and the circumstances in which war is justified. Book II discusses those circumstances, namely self defense, repatriation of injury and punishment. The last book discusses the rules of war once it has begun.
