Dogs are four legged mammals from the canine family. Domesticated dogs are used for a variety of purposes, such as guarding, hunting, tracking, or just as pets. They are carnivorous, and typically characterized by long snouts, an acute sense of smell, nonretractable claws, and a barking, howling, or whining voice.

When Flint was young, he saw a dead dog lying the grass. The dog had been old but seemed very young in death. He saw the first flies land on her eyes. He thought it strange that they looked alive but did not move. That was the first time he wondered what death would feel like.

Season One[]

The transom of the Walrus features two dogs curled up at the feet of two women on either side of a globe.

Many citizens of Nassau keep dogs as pets.

Captain Dyfed Bryson observes someone walking a pair of dogs when he makes landfall in Nassau.

Pastor Lambrick startles a pair of dogs who run off barking when he arrives on horseback at the Barlow Estate in the dead of night. It is unknown if they are her pets or strays.  

Charles Vane calls Anne Bonny Jack Rackham's dog.

Season Three[]

Edward Teach tells Charles Vane that loyalty is how a dog survives.

A number of dogs are kept as pets by the Maroons in the Maroon Camp.

Flint remembers the memory of the dead dog while dreaming about Miranda Barlow.

Season Four[]

Several dogs begin barking as the Pirate Resistance attacks the Underhill Estate. they begin barking again when the New Providence Island Militia rallies to repel the pirates.

A posse is sent to the Wrecks to find John Silver. The Redcoats and militia use hunting dogs to search for Silver. However, Silver evades capture, and they return to Nassau empty handed.

  • Zach McGowan requested that his character, Charles Vane, have a dog as a pet.
  • The dogs used in the scene where the Redcoats search for Silver are Belgian Malinois dogs, a breed anachronistic to the series as they were only first introduced in the 1890s.
