They are carnivorous, and typically characterized by long snouts, an acute sense of smell, nonretractable claws, and a barking, howling, or whining voice.

A posse is sent to the Wrecks to find John Silver. The Redcoats and militia use hunting dogs to search for Silver. However, Silver evades capture, and they return to Nassau empty handed.
