Dr. Marcus was a doctor in the service of Governor Woodes Rogers, traveling with him to Nassau

Biography[]

Season Three[]

Dr. Marcus travels to Nassau as a passenger on one of the ships in Woodes Rogers' fleet. Shortly after the town is pacified and Roger and his men are able to move in, a sickness begins spreading among them. The inhabitants ofNew Providence Island are immune to the disease, but the newcomers are not. A Redcoat guard at the fort is ordered by Rogers to report to Marcus immediately, for he appears sick and is the third man in four hours to attempt to brush off illness as a mere cough to Rogers[1].

Soon, the number of sick grows to fourteen, although none have died yet. Rogers returns to Nassau bloodied and beaten, the only survivor of his caravan to transport the Urca gems and the prisoner Jack Rackham to a ship bound for Havana. En route, they were attacked by pirates, who successfully absconded with both. When Eleanor Guthrie sees Rogers' battered state, she orders someone to fetch Dr. Marcus. Marcus treats Rogers' wounds in the Governor's Mansion, and exits the room when Eleanor arrives to speak with Rogers[2]

Shortly after Eleanor leaves Rogers, he collapses, prompting Marcus to confine him to his bed. Rogers insists on meeting with his senior counselors in his bedroom. When Eleanor arrives, Marcus explains that Rogers had collapsed and he believes that the fever is worsening. He promises to do what he can before leaving. Rogers state worsens even further and Eleanor orders that he be sequestered, not bothering to tell him because Rogers, in his delusional state, called Eleanor "Sarah," the name of his wife. Dr. Marcus also agrees with this plan, saying that the stress of receiving visitors is only aggravating Rogers' condition. Rogers' room is to be sealed and no one save for Eleanor and Dr. Marcus are allowed inside. Before Charles Vane's execution, Eleanor tells Mr. Soames that Rogers is still bedridden, but assures him that Marcus will inform them when the situation changes[3]. When Rogers awakens, Dr. Marcus informs Eleanor, as promised[4].
