The English Merchant Ship was a three masted ship boarded by the crew of the Walrus after they acquired the Spanish Man O' War.

History[]

Season Two[]

The ship is spotted by the pirates while coming from Kingston and thought to be sugar merchants. They hail the ship, pretending to be Spanish Navy before raising the black, prompting her captain to surrender. Dufresne then leads the vanguard aboard, and the merchant crew is consolidated in the well deck, guarded by pirates. The Merchant Captain and a few officers remain on the quarterdeck. Dufresne tells him he was wise not to fight, and asks if there are any men waiting below. The Captain tells him that it is as he sees it. Dufresne then orders his men to sweep the hold and start with the bow.

The Captain begins questioning his decision to surrender, while his crew prepares to attack the outnumbered pirates in case he gives the signal. He asks Dufresne if he's Captain FlintFlint. Dufresne assures him that he does not want to test the pirates, all but giving the Captain his answer. The Captain then whistles, signalling his crew to attack. Joji, who had been standing behind him, cuts him down with a single swing of his shortsword, before joining the fray on the main deck. The pirates are overwhelmed, and someone calls them to retreat to their ship. He, Joji and Joshua are able to fight their way back to the Spanish warship. Some others escape, but many are killed or left behind. Dufresne attempts to order muskets to the rigging to suppress the sailors' front line, but De Groot insists that they have lost the day. Logan asks why they're listening to Dufresne and De Groot says it's because he's in charge but Logan screams that no one is in charge of the ship.

Flint then walks up to them and says they need to sink the merchant vessel, for if any of them survive, no one will surrender to their flag ever again. Flint orders them to cut themselves loose and Logan repeats the order, Joji and other pirates work on cutting the ropes holding the ships together. Flint then orders the gun crews to make ready, and they pause for a moment before Joshua repeats the order. Flint orders them to fire, and they destroy the merchant ship, killing the entire crew.

Trivia[]

  • The ship flies the Union Jack from both the jackstaff at the bow, and the flagpole in the stern. The Union Jack was only meant to be flown from the former, the Red Ensign was flown from the stern.
  • The rigging of the ship matches the Spanish Man O' Mar rather than other regular tall ships.
