The Fall of Barbados was an event that occurred during the War of the Quadruple Alliance.
History[]
Background[]
Barbados’ economy was driven by sugar plantations, and the labor intensive work was done by a large population of African slaves. By 1700, there were 50,000 enslaved blacks and 15,000 whites on the island.
The Battle[]
A large portion of the slaves on the island revolted, taking over large swathes of the island. The capital of Bridgetown held out, however.
Aftermath[]
Captain Flint and the rest of the Pirate-Maroon alliance were informed of this event by the Jamaican Maroon Chief while they planned their first moves. Another Maroon Chief says he could probably recruit seven or eight hundred men to make an assault on the mainland from Barbados.
