Biography[]

Season Two[]

The crew of the Colonial Dawn is badly split over the feud between Captain Flint and Charles Vane over Fort Nassau, unable to decide who to back. Augustus Featherstone, the quartermaster, leads 28 men of the crew, including Haines, in naming Jack Rackham as captain of their ship and crew[1]

Rackham leads the crew in capturing a merchant vessel named theTrue North, however another pirate crew also lays claim to the prize. Rackham sits to negotiate with the captain over splitting the prize cargo. However, the captain offers a terrible deal. Rackham speaks with Featherstone, who says that the crew will take the deal, knowing that they can’t fight Captain Linus Harcourt and his numerically superior crew.

Rackham feigns acceptance to the deal, but then slashes Harcourt with his dagger. After a brutal fistfight, Harcourt dies after bleeding out from the wound to his neck. Before the pirate crews begin fighting, Rackham begs them to wait. He then says that Harcourt wanted to kill every member of the merchant crew, which Rackham could not allow. He orders Haines to remove the crew of the True North’s restraints and to arm them. Haines follows his captain’s orders. Rackham then asks if there is a member of the Goliath’s crew willing to negotiate a more reasonable deal in light of the overwhelming numbers against them. The Goliath’s Quartermaster then sits down to negotiate with Rackham[2]

Haines and several other crew members are summoned by Rackham when he and Featherstone discover that the fort has been abandoned. After they break down the door with a ram, they discover the crucified body of Richard Guthrie[3]

After setting sail, Featherstone informs the crew that the prize they are hunting is the Urca de LimaHe begins the story by saying "let me tell you a story about a Spaniard named Vazquez." When the crew arrives in Florida, they participate in a bloody fight against the few remaining Spanish soldiers, but they prevail and return to Nassau with the gold and the Walruswhich they refitted for the hold space[4]

Season Four[]

Haines becomes a member of the Pirate Resistance after Governor Woodes Rogers restores British rule to Nassau. After the Pirate Fleet’s Invasion of Nassau is repelled, Billy Bones and Ben Gunn lead about a dozen men, Haines among them, to rendezvous with the survivors at the fallback position on the eastern shore. Billy and Flint have a brief shouting match upon sighting each other, with the latter blaming the former for not forewarning the fleet of the harbor’s obstruction. Billy explains that Featherstone was supposed to send the message, which obviously did not reach Flint. The men then trek back to the Barlow Estate, which has become the headquarters of the resistance[5].

Haines participates in the nighttime assault on the Underhill Estate, and the Resistance is able to defeat the New Providence Militia guarding it. However, when it is revealed that if the pirates stay at the estate, the relatives of the slaves there will be tortured on the other estates, Flint and Madi try to lead the men in retreat. Billy, consumed by hatred of Flint and not wanting the lives of the six men lost in taking the estate to be in vain, refuses, leading to a standoff between Flint and Madi's and Billy's faction. The two sides open fire on each other and begin fighting, and Haines is killed in the ensuing melee. The militia from the other plantations then arrives, and Flint and Madi lead their remaining men in retreating while Billy's stay and fight[6].
