Howard is a member of the pirate crew aboard the Spanish Man O’ War under the command of Captain Flint.
Biography[]
Season Two[]
Howard was a member of Benjamin Hornigold’s crew who joined Flint's when they combined their crews to oust Charles Vane from Fort Nassau. They give Vane until sunrise the next day to surrender, or they will attack[1].
The next day, the crew bombards the fort until a breach is made, and then they move ashore. However, the final assault is postponed while Flint meets with Miranda Barlow. When he returns, he calls off the assault in order to receive Abigail Ashe, who he will use to reconcile Nassau and England. Hornigold, angry at this betrayal, demands an election[2].
At night, the crew gathers in the Guthrie Warehouse. Hornigold gives a speech about how Flint will betray all of them for his own goals and cannot be trusted. However, the crew then receives the news that the Spanish have reclaimed the gold. Silver then gives a stump speech for Flint, and tells them that he is the only one offering them a forward towards a stable life, free from fear of execution. Howard was one of over 70 men who voted for Captain Flint over Hornigold[3].
Howard continues to serve while the warship sails to Charles Town to deliver Abigail Ashe to her father, Lord Peter Ashe, Governor of the Province of Carolina, in order to convince Ashe to help reconcile Nassau with the British Empire. En route to Charles Town, Howard is scheduled for duty on the mizzenmast. Before he goes up, De Groot warns him and the others scheduled for duty that they are going through the wind again, and it will be difficult. He then sends them to their posts, Howard to the mizzen, Nicholas to the main, and Tyson to the foremast. The foot rope of the mainmast snaps, causing Nicholas to fall to the deck to his death[4].
Howard is captured by Charles Vane and his men when they attack the ship at anchor. While Vane leads half his men in trying to rescue Flint from being hanged, his quartermaster is in command. When his men try to take John Silver away from the crew, Howard and the rest of them begin fighting with Vane's crew, but stop when they threaten to shoot. The scuffle they caused is revealed to have been a ruse in order to get the Bayman Lieutenant's keys. The crew, after unshackling themselves, rises up and takes the ship back from Vane's men. After Flint returns, the crew destroy Charles Town at his orders. On the way home to Nassau, they elect Silver quartermaster[5].
