History[]
Background[]
William Manderly was the son of Levelers in Kensington. They protested the practice of kidnapping and impressment. William's parents insisted that William be literate so he could understand and contribute to the cause. One winter, William was handing out pamphlets when a press gang found him. They kidnapped him, leaving only the pamphlets for his parents to find.
When William's ship was boarded by the pirates of the Walrus, William was freed. He was given the opportunity to kill the man who had taken him away from his family and forced him into bondage without wages. William killed that man, but couldn't bear the idea of returning to parents a murderer, he did not think they could accept it. Instead, he joined the crew of the Walrus.
Season Two[]
Flint tells Abigail Ashe Billy's history after she remarks that he seems like someone she could have known in London. Flint says that it's entirely possible they met.
Quotes[]
"He just seems so out of place here, like someone I might have known back home in London."
