History[]
Background[]
Kingston was founded in July of 1692 as a place for survivors of the earthquake that devastated Port Royal that same year. Prior to the city’s functions were purely agricultural. The earthquake survivors set up a tent camp by the sea and continued to build up the town. By 1716, it would became the largest port and center of trade in Jamaica.
Season Two[]
After they acquire the Spanish Man O’ War, Dufresne is acting captain and Flint and Silver are to be discharged from the crew without severance once they reach Nassau. Flint approaches Dufresne and offers him advice. After losing their favorable wind for hours, he believes a crew member will suggest tacking east around the coast to get ahead of the wind, which maneuvered properly, would be the fastest way home. Flint advises against taking this route at all costs, for it runs right through the common passage out of Kingston, and the men will want to take the first prize they find. Flint tells Dufresne that their numbers are too depleted and they need to get home, get rested and reinforce their numbers.
Dufresne takes the bait and sails that route. Sure enough, they find an English Merchant Ship, whichLogan theorizes to be carrying sugar and inbound from Kingston. The crew attempt to take the ship, but it ends in disaster when the Merchant Captain orders his men to attack the pirates aboard his ship. Flint takes command of his crew once again and orders them to sink the ship. After some hesitation, the men comply and sink the merchant ship. In the vote for the captaincy of the crew, Flint is elected[1].
Ned Low mentions that he has made camp at Kingston when talking to Charles Vane. He says there as well in Nassau, there is a man whom you do not cross, and he believes that man is Vane[2].
Season Four[]
Governor Raja asks Woodes Rogers why he is not seeking aid from British colonies like Kingston in clearing the pirates out of Nassau when he goes to Havana for that purpose despite the fact that England and Spain are at war[3].
Trivia[]
- After Black Sails concluded, the set for Nassau Town was repurposed by another Starz production, Outlander, to be 1760s Kingston.
