Flint inspects the library, which contains the book, in the captain’s cabin of the Spanish Man O’ War and remarks that a shelf of books contains so many possibilities. Dufresne says nothing rang familiar to him and Flint lies and says neither for him.
When Flint is named captain again, he prepares to go ashore and ask Benjamin Hornigold for help in capturing the Urca gold. Before he leaves, he looks over the shelf of books again and chooses La Galatea as a gift for Miranda Barlow .
