Biography[]

Season Three[]

As the pirates flee Captain Benjamin Hornigold aboard the Orion, they arrive at the Maroon Island. In order to convince Hornigold to retreat, John Silver comes up with a risky maneuver that Flint agrees to performing. The Leadsman is deployed, and drops the sounding lead into the water. As the Walrus sails deeper into the bay, the Leadsman calls out the depth is 14 fathoms, which Dooley relays to De Groot. Flint then orders the starboard and stern anchors to be hung. The Leadsman then announces the depth is at 12 fathoms, and De Groot informs Flint that the anchors are hung and ready awaiting Flint’s orders. The Leadsman then calls out that the depth is at 10 fathoms. He then announces that it’s at eight fathoms, with Dooley repeating each depth. De Groot gets nervous about the risk, warning Flint and Silver that if they miss their mark by as little as a boat’s length, the results could be catastrophic. When the Leadsman announces that the depth is at five fathoms, Flint orders for the starboard anchor to be dropped, the courses and t’gallants taken in and for Mr. Williamson to steer them hard to port. He then orders Williamson to bring them hard to starboard and for the stern anchor to be dropped. This maneuver quickly brings the Walrus perpendicular to the Orion’s approach, and Flint orders the gunport to be opened. When the army of Maroons emerges out of the forest onto the beach, Hornigold decides he has no way to win this fight and retreats back to Nassau.
