Lilywhite is a pirate captain who spends much of his time standing outside Eleanor Guthrie's tavern, condemning her to anyone who will listen.

Biography[]

Background[]

Lilywhite has long spoken out against Richard Guthrie and his daughter, Eleanor due to his belief that a centralized fence is bad for Nassau, as it allowed the Guthries to behave as tyrants. His rantings usually only attract a miniscule audience[1].

Season One[]

Up until recently, very few would care to hear what he had to say. However, after Eleanor blacklisted Charles Vane and his crew, many captains began to worry the same would happen to him if they crossed her on the wrong day. Benjamin Hornigold tells Mr. Scott that three captains have come to him expressing those concerns. He also says that Lilywhite is preaching to Nassau about the evils of a centralized fence. Scott says that he also has seen Lilywhite, and his audience usually only consists of three halfwits. Hornigold replies that this morning there were twelve and urges Scott to rein in Eleanor[1]

Lilywhites influence among the pirates of Nassau grows further after Richard tells them all that he has been branded an outlaw, and that his company is unable to pay any debts or credits owed. Lilywhite stands outside the Tavern and rants about Eleanor to a large crowd of angry pirates. He tells them that the Guthries have stolen from them and Eleanor is inside laughing at them. Hornigold deploys his men around the Tavern to keep violence from breaking out. He suggests to Eleanor that she try and pay some of her debts to try and keep the tempers in Lilywhite's crowd from boiling over.

Lilywhite continues to rant throughout the day. He tells the pirates of Nassau that they had this coming because they trusted a girl whose never raised a sail nor set foot on a deck to handle their money.

Eleanor tries to form a new Consortium in order to handle the fencing of the pirates' goods, replacing her father and his connections to the Guthrie Trading Company. However, Hornigold says a caveat of his joining and giving his blessing is that she lift the ban on Captain Vane. She refuses to do anything for the benefit of Lilywhite and his men but Hornigold insists that until they are appeased, they will pose a danger to the Consortium. Furthermore, Eleanor is rash, and needs to show the street that she is willing to put animosity aside in the name of business[2].

Lilywhite continues ranting deep into the night, saying that it is time to tell the people who want to enslave the pirates of Nassau, that they are no longer welcome.

Lilywhite ranting-night

Eleanor retreats to her office for two hours. Captain Geoffrey Lawrence expresses concern about this but Naft is unbothered. Frasier then explains that if she refuses to lift the ban, then Captain Hornigold will remove his men and the Consortium will be finished before it even started. After that, Lilywhite and his mob will be free to burn everything with the Guthrie name on it, and all of Nassau will likely descend into fiery ruin. Every moment Eleanor deliberates, she is considering the latter a viable option. Shortly afterwards, she steps out of her office and agrees to it, and Hornigold says he'll take the good news to Lilywhite[3].

About Lilywhite[]

"Every morning for months now when I walk the beach into town, I see Captain Lilywhite standing on his stoop and jabbering away to anyone who will listen about the evils of a centralized fence. Arguing that this island will never be free until we all come together to cast off the tyrannical yoke of Queen Eleanor." Benjamin Hornigold in IV.
