Nevis is an island in the West Indies and part of the British Empire. It lies two miles south of the island of St. Kitts, separated by a strait called "the Narrows."
History[]
Background[]
Nevis was claimed by the Spanish. However, the island was a popular stop over point for English and Dutch ships. The English began settling it in 1628. The sugarcane grown on the island was of high quality and it became the primary export. Due to the labor intensive nature of sugar cultivation, African slaves were imported en masse.
Season Three[]
After the Sack of Charles Town, Captain Flint proclaims that any magistrate in the New World who hangs men for piracy will receive a visit from him. The magistrate in Nevis does so, and Flint sacks the colony and kills the magistrate.
Later, Flint mentions to Magistrate Hazzard that the magistrate in Nevis did not heed his warning, and paid the price.
Quotes[]
"Bridgetown, St. Kitts, Martinique, Nevis. Their magistrates hanged men for piracy. They all received visits from me." - Flint to Hazzard in XIX.
