The New World is one of the names used for the Americas. The term gained prominence in the 16th century during the Age of Discovery.
History[]
Background[]
After the European powers began colonizing the Americas, the terms New and Old Worlds arose. The New World was used to refer to the newly discovered and largely unexplored lands of North and South America. The Old World referred to Europe, Asia and Africa.
Recent History[]
In 1705, Lord Thomas Hamilton and his liasion to the Admiralty, Lieutenant James McGraw, worked on a solution to the pirate problem in the Bahamas. In one of their meetings, Thomas tells him that the New World is a sacred opportunity to right their wrongs and begin anew, and he does not want his family’s plot in it to result in its fall.
As they and their allies work on passing an act in Parliament to pardon the pirates of Nassau, McGraw proposes to Lady Miranda that they make Thomas the Governor of New Providence, saying he is the best person to lead the building of the New World.
Season One[]
After revealing to his crew that the prize they are chasing is the Urca de Lima, the largest Spanish treasure galleon in the Americas, Flint promises to make them the princes of the New World.
Pastor Lambrick informs Miranda Barlow that after announcing the news of his arrest to the pirates of Nassau, Richard Guthrie persuaded Mr. Underhill to grant him sanctuary on his estate, which is guarded by some of the most brutal overseers in the New World.
Season Two[]
Eleanor Guthrie attempts to free Abigail Ashe from Charles Vane’s captivity in Fort Nassau. She tells her that she intends to deliver her to Captain Flint and Lady Miranda Hamilton. Abigail says she remembers Lady Hamilton, but her father told her that Flint is the most wicked of the New World pirates.
After Flint wins the election for the captaincy of his crew against Benjamin Hornigold, Dufresne tells Billy Bones that they have to betray Flint and take him to the Royal Navy on Harbour Island. Billy is tentative, but Dufresne says that pursuing a political alliance with the most dogged pirate hunter in the New World, Lord Governor Peter Ashe, won’t happen. Billy agrees, but after reveals it to be a ruse and expels Dufresne and his men from the crew.
Abigail Ashe writes in her journal that from across an ocean, it is hard to know exactly what is the New World. However, after traversing the ocean that separates the Old World from the New, she worries that the stories she has heard may have clouded the truth rather than clarified it.
When Jack Rackham and Featherstone go to the fort to ask Vane permission to store the Urca de Lima gold in the vaults, he says that Vane managed to corral 40 of the hardest men in the New World, brought them under his command and sued them to take Fort Nassau. However, all that was brought down by someone Vane used to call Lady Honeypot.
When Flint and Miranda arrive in Charles Town, they gain an audience with Lord Ashe. Ashe points out that arguing for reconciliation will be just as difficult now as it was ten years ago, especially now that they’re talking about a failed colony rather than a failing one. Flint responds that among the things that they now have working in their favor is the New World’s most committed pirate hunter endorsing this plan.

The New and Old Worlds as depicted in Nicola Sanson's map.
When Miranda realizes that Peter betrayed them and Thomas all those years ago, she enters a rage and begins yelling at Peter, and that he betrayed them in exchange for the promise of being made a king in the New World. Eventually, Colonel William Rhett of the Charles Town Militia kills Miranda and arrests Flint.
After his arrest, the militia Boat Captain informs the pirates aboard the Spanish Man O’ War in the harbor. He says that Flint’s execution ill symbolize that the rule of law exists in Carolina, and that the death of piracy in the New world has never been nearer.
At the trial, Vice Admiral Lord Kensington says in his opening remarks that Flint is accused of wreaking untold havoc throughout the New World.
Season Three[]
John Silver expresses his concerns to Billy Bones that the mental toll of playing the part of the New World’s biggest villain is wearing on Captain Flint and his mental state.
After the execution of Charles Vane, Ellers informs Captain Edward Teach of the event, and that Woodes Rogers has spread the word that he is resolved to be the Englishman who ends piracy in the New World.
Season Four[]
After learning about her husband’s financial troubles, Eleanor tells Woodes Rogers that she can go to her grandfather and ask for help, for by the time she was born he was one of the richest men in the New World.
Madi asks Captain Flint if he thinks they can still make a difference and actually strike back at the men in London. Flint replies if they can take Nassau, break the illusion of the British Empire’s invulnerability and incite a revolt that spreads across the New World, then they can certainly make a difference.
When Rogers sails into the port of Havana, to secure Spanish aid in ridding Nassau of the pirates, First Mate Molin asks why they wouldn’t fire on them given that they are at war. Rogers replies that they will want to know why the most recognizable British governor in the New World is sailing a man of war into their harbor requesting parley.
At the Havana Governor’s Mansion, Rogers warns Governor Raja of the dangers of the pirates present, and their taking Nassau would be rallying cry across the New World that would only cause mayhem and destruction.
While walking to the southern coast to complete their deal, Flint tells Eleanor that there was a time where she also saw the benefit of being free of British rule and making the New World something more than an extension of the Old.
Long John Silver attempts to persuade Julius , the head of an army of former slaves, to join him in trying to free the New World.
After the Spanish sack Nassau, the survivors flee to the Maroon Camp, where dozens of pirate crews and groups of Maroons have gathered. At the strategy meeting, Silver expresses his surprise that no one is at each other’s throats yet. Flint says that whatever their differences, everyone present is committed to ending colonial rule in the New World.
While sailing back to Nassau to rescue Madi, Silver asks Flint that if they succeed and the war spreads throughout the New World, if there is anything actually beyond the violence and chaos that Flint had said was just a transition in Nassau.
