The Province of New York is a colony of the British Empire located on the east coast of North America. The capital of the colony is New York City.

Background[]
The Dutch West India Company founded the colony called New Netherland, and the capital was New Amsterdam on Manhattan Island. However, the city was captured by the British in 1664 and the rest of the colony was British territory by 1667. The province became a proprietary colony under James, the Duke of York. It became a royal colony in 1686.

Flint predicts toBilly Bones that news ofRichard Guthrie’s arrest will soon spread to New York, Charles Town and eventually Boston, and Nassau’s pirates will be unable to sell to any legitimate market in the Americas.
The night of the final voyage to hunt the Urca de Lima, Gates and Flint reminisce about an old member of their crew. Cregg, a carpenter's mate, died while taking the prize ship the Pembroke. In his locker, Gates found 12 pesos, a busted pocket watch, and a letter with instructions to deliver it to Cregg’s sister in New York. Gates bought a round for his men with the pesos and traded the watch for a prostitute. Gates then spent two weeks that winter trying to find Cregg’s sister and deliver the letter. Gates searched all over but was unable to find her. On the way back to Nassau, Gates waited until the ship was in open water and couldn’t see land in any direction and threw the letter overboard.
