Parrots are birds, often vividly colored, with a short down-curved hooked bill, grasping feet, and a raucous voice, found especially in the tropics and feeding on fruits and seeds. Many are popular as cage birds, and some are able to mimic the human voice.

History[]

Season One[]

A blue and yellow macaw is kept as a pet at the Inn in Nassau. It is kept in the common room.

The parrot squawks while Mrs. Mapleton helps the Injured Prostitute, and continues to while Eleanor asks what happened.

Season Two[]

Featherstone enters the Inn in a huff and storms up the stairs, startling the macaw and causing it to squawk.

Trivia[]

  • Blue and yellow macaws are mainly found in northern South and Central America, but they can also be found in the Caribbean, particularly Trinidad.
  • It is possible that the presence of the parrot is a reference to the trope of pirates having pet parrots, a trope that was started by Treasure Island. Showrunner Jonathan Steinberg specifically mentioned in an interview with Entertainment Weekly that he wanted to avoid including pirate cliches, like parrots and peg legs.
