Background[]
The Visigoth kingdom in what is now Portugal that emerged following the Fall of the Roman Empire was conquered by Umayyad Caliphate. However, all vestiges of this were destroyed by 1294. Portugal eventually became a major power in Europe, building a vast empire during the Age of Discovery.
