The Raids on the Western Plantations were a series of engagements during the Pirate-Maroon War. The Pirate Resistance would frequently harass Governor Woodes Rogers' supply lines from the interior estates of the island.

History[]

Background[]

After the execution of Charles Vane and the defeat of the British forces at the Battle of the Maroon Island, Billy Bones founded the Pirate Resistance, which was dedicated to retaking Nassau and harassing Rogers' forces while passing information to the Pirate Fleet at the Maroon Island, which was preparing to invade. Meanwhile, Rogers' military forces were significantly depleted when the majority of them heeded their orders to return to London after war broke out between England and Spain.

The Raids[]

Rogers relied on supply lines from the interior estates to feed his forces in Nassau. Billy would lead his men in assaulting these supply lines, and a number of these raids occurred at midnight. The exact details of these raids are unknown, but it is likely that both sides took casualties.

Aftermath[]

With these raids, Billy and the Resistance successfully exercised control over all of New Providence Island outside of Nassau Town and the plantations. They remained unable to take either of those however, due to the strength of Rogers' force of British Regulars in the former and the New Providence Island Militia in the latter. The raids were the last major engagement prior to the Invasion of Nassau.
