Savannah is the oldest city in the Province of Georgia. It is the location of a plantation where the rich hide their troublesome family members to live in anonymity, never to be heard from again. Max learns of its existence from one of her spies, and John Silver surmises that Thomas Hamilton may be incarcerated there.

Layout[]

Oglethorpe's estate outside Savannah is centered around a large mansion, behind which is a small copse of trees. It is surrounded by fields of crops such as sugarcane, which are in turn surrounded a wooden palisade dotted with watchtowers. The gates to the estate bear a Latin inscription that translates to "not for themselves but for others." Within the walls are quarters for the inmates and staff.

History[]

Background[]

Governor James Oglethorpe was given permission to establish a colony in what would become the Province of Georgia. Oglethorpe used convicts freed from debtor prisons in England as colonists, and was able to establish good relations with the natives in the area. Oglethorpe also maintained a more private estate, where the troublesome sons of wealthy families were kept.

Season Two[]

Lord Peter Ashe tells his daughter Abigail that he has made arrangements to have her go to Savannah and stay with Mr. Ashford, where she will stay for a few days. Ashe explains he doesn't want her to see the ugliness that the spectacle of Flint's trial will cause in Charles Town[1]

Season Four[]

Max tells John Silver about a reform minded man with an estate north of Spanish Florida. He uses convicts as laborers and interns them humanely. Max mentions that prominent families in London made use of it to get rid of troublesome family members. Silver tries to ask her which families in London made use of it[2]

Silver sends Tom Morgan to investigate if Thomas Hamilton is held at the estate of James Oglethorpe. Morgan tries to ask him, but Oglethorpe deflects the question by describing his reasons for creating his estate. Morgan asks his question again, insisting that he is not an enemy of Hamilton. Oglethorpe says that many of the men in his estate have powerful enemies. Morgan asks Oglethorpe if he knows who he is and Oglethorpe admits that he does not. Morgan introduces himself and tells Oglethorpe that he is from Nassau on behalf of Long John Silver.

After Woodes Rogers is defeated at Skeleton Island, Silver sends Morgan, Ben Gunn and Israel Hands to deliver Flint to Oglethorpe's estate outside Savannah, where he is reunited with Thomas Hamilton. Morgan pays Oglethorpe for Flint's internment.

The Maroon and pirate leaders at the Maroon Camp are told that Flint retired from the war and the Account. A treaty is ratified between them and the British government, and most agree to lay down their arms. When they talk in private, Madi tells Silver she assumes Silver had Flint killed. He explains to her how he instead stripped Flint's identity away from him, leaving James McGraw to reunite with Hamilton[3].

Trivia[]
