The Scuttled Ships are three ships purchased cheaply from Abaco by Woodes Rogers for the purpose of sinking them to form a barricade at the mouth of Nassau’s harbor.
History[]
Season Four[]
After the departure of most of his military forces, Woodes Rogers purchased the three ships cheaply from Abaco six days before the arrival of the Pirate Fleet.
During the Invasion of Nassau, the Walrus, Defiant and Eagle make a course to enter the harbor while the Revenge remains to do battle with a seemingly unarmed Fort Nassau. As they sail into the harbor, they see the sunken hulks but are unable to change course, and all three vessels are grounded. The soldiers in the fort then pull covers off the guns and begin firing into the defenseless ships. Flint tries to fight back, but in the end is forced to order the pirates to abandon ship. The pirates flee in longboats, but take many casualties as the rest of Rogers' fleet hounds them. While attempting to descend into a longboat, John Silver is knocked overboard and dragged to the bottom of the bay. He is able to swim into the hold of the Defiant, but this offers only a temporary respite as the ship begins to sink due to the hulk beneath her breaking up.
After the handful of survivors regroup at the eastern shore, Billy Bones and the Pirate Resistance arrives. Flint yells at him for not warning them, saying that the British obstructed the harbor with two sunken ships and it must have taken days to arrange. Billy replies that it was three ships, and he told Featherstone to warn Flint not to enter the harbor. Flint grimly remarks that Featherstone has "fucked them all" and the pirates retreat to the Barlow Estate, the Resistance headquarters.
The Eagle and Defiant sink into the harbor, with only their masts still visible, but the Walrus remains comparatively above water and undamaged. After the Fall of Nassau, the pirates tow the Walrus off the sunken wreck.
Quotes[]
"Two ships they sunk! It must have taken them days to arrange!"
" I know, I..."
"Then why the f*ck didn't you warn us?!"
"I did warn you! There were three ships, not two. He bought them cheap out of Abaco. He scuttled them six days ago."
- James Flint and Billy Bones in XXIX.
