The Serious Slave is a slave aboard the Dutch Slaver freed by Charles Vane

Biography[]

Season Three[]

The Serious Slave is held captive aboard the Dutch Slaver, which is being chased by Charles Vane. Hoping to avoid being boarded, the Slaver Captain throws all the slaves overboard, thinking that Vane will cease his pursuit to gather his plunder. Vane leaves his longboats behind to gather the slaves, and boards the slaver, slaughtering their crew.

The Serious Slave and the rest of the slaves from the Dutch ship are made to work on rebuilding Fort Nassau, promised fair treatment by Jack Rackham. Mr. Scott oversees them, making sure that they are treated fairly and that they are making progress. Vane works with them, uncomfortable with the fact that Jack is using slave labor due to his past as a slave. Scott tells Vane that he understands why Vane is working with them, but it is confusing for the slaves to see him do so.

The slaves restore four cannons to the Fort’s walls, and before Woodes Rogers arrives they add two more. Rogers sends Benjamin Hornigold to read his address, promising pardons to all but Charles Vane, upon whom a  bounty of 10,000 pounds is placed. Jack, Anne and Vane and Jack’s crew hole up in Fort, while men seeking the bounty knock on its doors. Jack and Anne blow up the powder magazine, bringing the wall down again and allowing Vane to escape to the jetty while they run off with their treasure. Before leaving, Jack unlocks the slave pen, allowing the slaves to run free, making it harder for Rogers to rebuild the fort.

The Slave and his brethren go to a secluded beach where two longboats await them. Mr. Scott gives them directions to the Maroon Island and instructs them not to go into the jungle, but to wait to be guided. However, they are discovered by two Redcoats. Scott’s attempts to diffuse the situation are futile, the the Redcoats and the Slaves open fire on each other. The two soldiers are killed, but Scott is wounded by a shot to his belly.

The slaves bring Scott with them to the Maroon Island, where they are brought to the camp and integrate into the Maroon’s society.
