The Tequesta are a Native American tribe living in southeastern Florida

History[]

Background[]

The Tequesta have inhabited southeastern Florida since the 3rd century BCE. They do not practice any agriculture, relying on hunting, fishing and gathering plants. They were hostile to Spanish missionaries.

Season Two[]

John Silver mistakenly volunteers for Flint’s mission to take the Spanish Man O’ War, believing it to be a ruse so they can escape. When he finds out Flint is serious, Silver says that he can find a living in St. Augustine and begins walking. Flint tells him that St. Augustine is in the opposite direction. It is a week’s journey on foot and it goes through Tequesta territory. Flint doubts that Silver will live to see sunrise the next day if he attempts his journey.

Quotes[]

"St. Augustine is that way. It's at least a week on foot, Tequesta tribes in between." - Flint to John Silver in IX.
