Thomas Middleton was an English playwright and poet. He was among the few to achieve equal success in both comedy and tragedy.
Biography[]
Background[]
Middleton was born in London and baptized on 18 April 1580. He was the son of a bricklayer who had raised himself to the status of gentleman, but he died when Thomas was five.
After matriculating from Queen’s College, Oxford, Middleton made a living writing topical pamphlets.
Middleton married in 1603, and worked as a free agent for whoever hired him to write for them. Middleton was appointed the chronologist of the City of London, a post he held until his death. These duties did not interrupt with his writing however. Middleton died in his home in 1627.
Season One[]
James Flint finds a book by Thomas Middleton in Captain Parrish’s cabin aboard his ship. He later gives it to Miranda Barlow as a gift, saying he remembered she likes Middleton’s works.
Quotes[]
"Which reminds me. Found it in Parrish's cabin. Middleton. Thought you might like it." - James Flint to Miranda Barlow in III.
