Biography[]

Season Three[]

When Jack Rackham tries to rouse the pirates to defend the port against the imminent arrival of Governor Rogers and his Royal Navy fleet, Throckmorton expresses strong reservations, believing that it would be impossible to mount a successful defense against a fleet of six ships. He is even further dismayed when Rackham tells him that there are eight ships.  However, he is shut down by Rackham, who threatens to turn his crew against him and any other captain who expresses hesitation in fighting for Nassau out of a fear of losing. Throckmorton brings up the point that Flint is still missing, and he was to lead the pirates' naval forces in battle. Edward Teach then arrives with the news that Flint is dead, but offers himself as a replacement, which appeases the pirate captains.  When Roger's Fleet arrives, Throckmorton leads the militia assembled on the beach. He’s the first to pirate to lay down his arms when Benjamin Hornigold makes his pardon address on the docks. He accepts the pardon. The rest of the pirates on the beach follow his lead in surrendering[1]

Throckmorton is present at the meeting between Eleanor, Captain Hornigold, and Misters SoamesUnderhill and Smalls to prepare for the upcoming Battle of the Maroon Island. Commodore Chamberlain arrives and asks why he saw three additional ships being outfitted next to his own in the harbor. Eleanor explains that Hornigold will be accompanying him with the New Providence Island Militia, which will further be supplemented by a special company of men from Underhill's plantation staff led by Mr. Smalls, who are all skilled in capturing escaped slaves. Chamberlain balks at fighting alongside "undisciplined conscripts," believing the force he brings to bear suffiicient. Eleanor says that she knows Flint well, and he has prepared for the force Chamberlain has, therefore they will send a force he does not expect[2]

After the death of Charles Vane, a “black spot” ultimatum is delivered to Captain Throckmorton demanding that Vane’s body be removed from the gibbet by nightfall. He brings it to the attention of Eleanor Guthrie, but she refuses, fearing it would undermine their authority. Throckmorton is unconcerned about the threat, which he views as cowardly. He declines Eleanor's offer of giving him a guard, saying he is happy to confront anyone who has a problem with him personally. Jacob Garrett then  brings the news to Billy Bones that Throckmorton dismissed their threat, and was seen in the Tavern in high spirits. Billy is unconcerned, telling him that Throckmorton has no reason to fear the threat, and they haven't done anything to give cause to fear their threats. Later, his dead body is found hanging from a noose in the square. This is the first act of the pirate rebellion against Governor Rogers that is secretly being roused by Billy Bones and his allies[3].
