History[]
Season Two[]
The True North is a merchant ship that Max finds a lead on, which she gives to Captain Rackham. The ship is heavily insured, and therefore likely to surrender the moment the pirates raise the Black. The pirates find the True North, and under Jack's leadership, they are able to catch up to her and the merchant ship surrenders to the Colonial Dawn. However, as they approach, they spot another pirate ship sailing towards their prize, a ship not from Nassau.
The two pirate crews board the ship, and the captain of the second introduces himself as Linus Harcourt of the Goliath. Rackham is surprised that they named their ship after the greatest disappointment in the history of warfare and Harcourt explains his men like how it sounds. Harcourt tells Jack that in his experience, they have three choices over what to do with two crews claiming one prize. The crews fight it out, the captains fight it out, or the captains sit down and divide the prize.
Rackham and Harcourt sit down and with the ship's manifest to divide the cargo. However, Harcourt offers a deal that despite the total tonnage being split evenly, the Goliath gets the majority of the value. Rackham briefly discusses things with his quartermaster, Featherstone. Featherstone thinks he should take the deal, but Rackham believes that the crew will vote him out before they return to Nassau if he does.

The Goliath's Quartermaster and Rackham sit down to discuss terms.
Rackham feigns acceptance before drawing his dagger and slashing Harcourt in the neck. Harcourt disarms him and begins beating him to a pulp. Before Harcourt can finish off Jack, he bleeds out as a result of his knife wound and dies. As the two pirate crews point their weapons at each other, Rackham clambers to his feet and asks the two crews to wait. He tells them that he tried to make a fair deal, but Harcourt wanted to slaughter the entire crew of the merchant ship. He then orders his men to release the True North crew and arm them. With the Goliath crew now outnumbered, Rackham asks if there is anyone among them who will sit down with him and make a reasonable deal. After some hesitation, the Goliath's Quartermaster agrees to sit down with him.
Quotes[]
