Biography[]
Background[]
Under the lead of Captain Berringer, Werth and several hundred other redcoats mutinied and remained in Nassau , swearing fealty to Governor Rogers. Werth, like the other redcoats, wished to exact revenge upon the pirates for the death of their comrades in the battle on the Maroon Island[1].
Season Four[]
Lieutenant Werth is one of the soldiers on the beach when Edward Teach sends one of the sloops he captured drifting into the harbor, festooned with the corpses of Redcoats and sailors he executed. When Governor Rogers arrives, Werth helps move the crowd aside so Rogers can get through. Captain Berringer informs Rogers that Teach intends to blockade the harbor unless Rogers gives him Eleanor Guthrie (now married to Rogers), whom he holds responsible for the death of Charles Vane, and if it is not met he will execute the remaining 61 captives[2].
When the hangings of the pirates taken prisoner during the invasion begin, Werth stands at the gallows as three pirates are marched up to be hanged. Werth stands behind Dr. Howell, and when Berringer gives the go ahead, Werth and the other two soldiers push the pirates off the platform, causing them to suffocate and die. Berringer orders the next three be brought up, but at that moment Long John Silver and Captain Flint lead their handful of men into the square. Berringer assembles his numerically superior force, but before anything can happen the pirates are joined by the citizens of Nassau, who are fed up with Berringer’s reign of terror. The two sides exchange fire and charge at each other. As the Redcoats start getting pushed back, Berringer calls up reinforcements that he stationed on the rooftops around the square. However, they are repelled by the arrival of Billy Bones and the Pirate Resistance. Israel Hands then begins cutting his way towards Berringer. Werth rushes at Hands, who parries his sword and kills him with one strike of his warhammer and then tossing his body aside[3].
Trivia[]
- When his costume was sold at auction, a picture of an extra from XXXIV. is used for some reason.
